The City & Guilds 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment is a competency-based qualification, assessed using evidence gathered from your everyday work as an electrician. Unlike classroom-based qualifications, the NVQ demonstrates your ability to carry out electrical installation work safely and competently in a real working environment.

Throughout the qualification, you'll build an online portfolio containing evidence from a variety of installation work across the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors.

Your portfolio will typically include evidence covering:

  • Health & Safety

  • Applying Legislation and Industry Standards

  • Organising Work Activities

  • First Fix Installation

  • Second Fix Installation

  • Inspection, Testing and Commissioning

  • Fault Diagnosis and Rectification

  • Short Bridging Theory Unit

  • AM2 Assessment (completed separately at an approved NET AM2 Centre)

Building Your Portfolio

Your portfolio is completed using evidence gathered from your day-to-day work on site. During your induction, your assessor will explain exactly what evidence is required and provide examples of how to meet each assessment criterion.

Most learners complete their portfolio using a combination of:

  • Workplace photographs

  • On-site observations

  • Professional discussions

  • Job documentation

  • Witness testimonies

  • Inspection and test certificates

  • Risk assessments and method statements, where applicable

Our easy-to-use online portfolio system allows you to upload evidence from anywhere, making it simple to track your progress throughout the qualification.

How Long Does the NVQ Take?

The 2357 NVQ is completely flexible, allowing you to progress at a pace that suits your workload and experience.

Most learners complete the qualification in approximately nine months, although you may finish sooner depending on how quickly you can gather the required workplace evidence.

Your City & Guilds registration remains valid for up to three years, giving you plenty of time to complete the qualification if required.

Expert Assessor Support

You'll be assigned a dedicated assessor who will support you from enrolment through to certification. Regular reviews, feedback and professional guidance ensure you always know what evidence is required and how to progress through your portfolio efficiently.

The units can be completed in the order that best suits your work, and your assessor will help you plan your portfolio around the projects you're undertaking on site.

Entry Requirements

To enrol on the City & Guilds 2357 Level 3 NVQ, you must hold a recognised Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations.

If you do not currently hold a Level 3 Diploma, or are still working towards one, our course advisors can recommend the most suitable route for you.

As the NVQ is assessed using evidence from your workplace, you must also be currently employed within the electrical industry and carrying out installation work as part of your role.

Ideally, you'll have access to a variety of installation work across commercial or industrial environments, enabling you to meet the full range of assessment criteria. If your work is primarily within the domestic sector, please contact us to discuss your circumstances, as alternative evidence may be acceptable depending on the work you undertake.

AM2 Assessment

The AM2 is a separate practical assessment that forms part of the overall qualification but is not included within the cost of the 2357 NVQ.

The AM2 must be completed at an approved NET AM2 Centre and is undertaken towards the end of your NVQ, once your portfolio is nearing completion.
