The City & Guilds 2346-03 Experienced Worker Qualification is designed for experienced electricians who have developed their skills on the job but do not hold a recognised Level 3 electrical qualification.
Successful completion of this qualification, together with the AM2E assessment, enables eligible learners to apply for the JIB ECS Gold Card, demonstrating occupational competence and recognition as a qualified electrician within the industry.
For many experienced electricians, the 2346-03 is the final step towards achieving recognised industry status.
The City & Guilds 2346-03 has replaced the 2356-99 Experienced Worker Qualification and is the current route for experienced workers seeking to gain their industry-recognised qualification and progress towards the ECS Gold Card.

Course Overview
The City & Guilds 2346-03 Experienced Worker Qualification is a competency-based Level 3 NVQ designed for experienced electricians who have developed their skills through industry experience but do not hold a recognised Level 3 electrical qualification.
The qualification is assessed using evidence gathered from your day-to-day work, allowing you to demonstrate your competence across a range of domestic, commercial and industrial electrical installations.
Working alongside a dedicated assessor, you'll build an online portfolio of workplace evidence, demonstrating your ability to work safely, competently and in accordance with current industry standards.

Unlike classroom-based qualifications, the 2346-03 is assessed using evidence gathered from your everyday work as an experienced electrician.

Throughout your qualification, your dedicated assessor will provide regular feedback and guidance, helping you gather the evidence required to successfully complete your NVQ.
Flexible Completion
The qualification is designed to fit around your work commitments, allowing you to complete your portfolio at a pace that suits you.
Most learners complete the qualification in approximately six months, although you may finish sooner depending on your workload and the evidence available. Your City & Guilds registration remains valid for up to three years, providing flexibility should you require additional time.
Entry Requirements
To enrol on the City & Guilds 2346-03 Experienced Worker Qualification, you must:

Have a minimum of five years' experience working as an electrician.

Hold the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.

Hold an Initial Verification qualification, such as City & Guilds 2391-50, 2394, 2391, or an equivalent qualification (including EAL).

Hold a recognised Level 2 Diploma in Electrotechnical (required under the current qualification requirements).
As this is a work-based qualification, you must also be currently employed within the electrical industry, enabling you to gather evidence from real workplace installations.
Ideally, you'll have experience across commercial or industrial installations to meet the full range of assessment criteria. If your work is primarily within the domestic sector, please contact our course advisors to discuss your eligibility.
